Duplicated in Plymouth (Addenda). Awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal when Company Sergeant Major, London Gazette 3 June 1915. The citation reads: For conspicious gallantry near St. Eloi on 14 March 1915 when he remained with twom other men defending the mound after his officer and all the men of the detachment had been killed or wounded. Company Sergeant Major Hanwright was previously brought to notice for his gallant conduct. Also awarded the Croix de Guerre (France)
